Building Boba Fett's Slave 1 Step 8: The finishing touch to the main hull.

Step 8 is basically a finishing step for the main hull which I've been working for the longest time but I'm happy to know that I've come a milestone in this project.

There's not much needed to be done in this step; basically putting the under covers of the main hull and attaching hte glass canopy of the cockpit which will finish off the main hull.

Much care is needed for gluing the clear plastic on because the fume from the glue can fog it like what happened with my Jango Fett's Slave 1. This time I used glue sparingly; just a bit on the top and bottom.

Under the main hull there are 3 panels to be installed. The smallest piece is painted gray like the color of the main hull but the bottom 2 panels are painted gray green like the contrasting camouflage of the main hull. They're pretty straight forward job. Next the skirting...

Bathroom makeover

Our bathroom is kind of old so it’s time for a complete makeover. We’re thinking of replacing everything including the bathroom vanities with brand new stylish modern ones we saw at DecorPlanet.com. DecorPlanet.com has some of the best looking bathroom vanities around. Of course we’ll be looking for some new bathtub and shower to go with it too, maybe even a spa!

Building Boba Fett's Slave 1 Step 7: The Main Hull Part 4: Completing the hull.

Its been a long time coming but I've finally finished working on the main hull. All that was left for me to do to complete the hull was to attach the guns and the cockpit to the hull.

The guns had to be painted gray and black before I attach them, there's an axle inside so the 2 guns can swivel up and down. The cockpit which was completed earlier is fixed into the main hull and held with glue. Next up step 8: Under the main hull.

Building Boba Fett's Slave 1 Step 7: The Main Hull Part 3: Set Back

I had a set back with my model; the colors I chose for the main hull turned out to be not as I expected and I wasn't all happy with the result I got after painting it.

The apple green paint I got from the hardware store was too green and rough on the hull, I didn't mind the camouflage contrast on it but the dark green on the side fenders run when I spray it!

So I decided to start again meaning I had to get rid of the paint first. I used Easy Off Oven Cleaner which works like a charm. Just spray on, leave overnight in zip-lock bag and washes off.

I then lightly sand the model down, re-glue the 2 halves and filled up the seam with Tamiya model putty before giving it another sanding just to get rid of excess putty and to smooth the seam over.

This time I used Tamiya AS-16 gray spray for the main hull and I got to say it looks so much better than that horrible green I used previously. What was I thinking?!

When the paint dries I masked the model with masking tapes and liquid mask. I've learned from previous attempt to apply more liquid mask rather than less because it doesn't peel off if it's applied too thinly.

I used the Tamiya AS-29 gray green spray for the contrasting camouflage. The 2 colors just go well with each other don't you think? After that I proceed to color in the other colors.

This is the end result; it's so much better than the previous attempt. I used the 1.5 mm micron masking tape I bought from Japan to mask the cockpit to paint in the flat black and the result is spectacular. The micron mask works a charm, they should sell them here.

Baby presents

This year has been a busy year for my brothers and sisters-in-laws. There have been a few babies born in the spate of a few months meaning we’re busy buying baby presents for their showers and birthdays. So what do you buy for babies? Just to make it easier we always buy them baby clothes which will always come in handy. Moreover they can hand them down to the next babies when they grow out of them.

Floaty

Remember a few days ago when one of my fish jumped out of the fish tank? Well I managed to get to it on time and put it back into the water and it swam away happily.

Then this morning I saw a dead fish floating in the tank. I can't be sure if it was the same fish that jumped out the other day, if it was then it means it suffered internal injuries and died a few days later. I did find bruises on its body though so it does appeared so.

Insuring my future

When I was young and foolish I thought I was invincible. I never wanted to plan for the future or about getting a life insurance.

Now that I’m a bit older and wiser my way of thinking has matured and I realize that life is full of uncertainties. We never know what is going to happen to us so it always pays to get a life insurance while we can still afford to and have a peace of mind.

Building Boba Fett's Slave 1 Step 7: The Main Hull Part 2

After the base paint of apple green I chose for the main hull I had to mask all the areas of the hull so that I can continue to color in the different parts with other colors.

Masking tapes are always useful but I can't do without liquid mask; simply apply where you don't want to get paint on and it will dry to a rubbery substance that you can peel of later. Now it's ready for other colors...

Insure your health before you travel

I love traveling; I’ll be overjoyed with anticipation about the places I’ll be visiting. It never fails to amaze me when I travel.

As a seasoned traveler I know too well the importance of organization before the trip like accommodation, airline tickets and travel health insurance which is of the utmost importance because you don’t want to be stuck in a strange country sick or God forbids run into an accident. So next times you travel make sure you get your travel health insurance in order.

Stupid fish

My fish tank has coverings on top so the fish can't jump out and also to keep dust and other stuff from getting into the tank. However the four corners of the tank has triangular openings and I feed them at one of these openings.

So every morning before I feed them they would get very excited when they see me in the room. They would all fight for the best spot at the opening anticipating the food I will give them. You can hear splashing of water and the floor would get wet from the water they spit out!

The other day when I came into the room they were at it again. When I finally went to feed them I saw one of them on the floor! One of them had been so excited it leaped out of the tank and onto the floor. At first I thought it was dead but then I saw it moved so I picked it up and threw it back into the tank and it just swam away, no injury could be seen and it seems okay. I guess I got there just in time, any longer and it would have died! Stupid fish.

Building Boba Fett's Slave 1 Step 7: The Main Hull Part 1

It's been a long while since I updated on my Slave 1 project again. Well I can only find time on the weekends so if the weekend is choke full of things to do then the project will have to wait.

But today I managed to do a bit more. I'm on Step 7 now; building the main hull of the ship. I needed 3 different colors for the hull and since I don't have an air brush I had to resort to using spray can paints.

And I couldn't find the 3 modeling spray can paints as per instruction! So I had to pick the colors closest to them, I found 2 matching quite close but the last one I had to find one from the hardware store. Its an ordinary spray can but the color is as close as I can get to so it'll have to do.

This is the hull of the ship, I had to glue the 2 parts together and the other smaller pieces that go with it as well before painting. I tried to cover up the seam where the 2 pieces meet with a model putty but ended up making a mess of it and had to sand it down to start again!

This is the first color to go on it, I will have to add in other colors later. The spray can I got from the hardware store is crappy because when I first started it came out powdery and rough but smooth up later so I ended up with one side rough and the other side smooth! I think I'll lightly sand it down and give it another light spray again tomorrow.

Thanks for the awards

I was given 2 awards by Erna Law; the Toadally Awesome Award and the Peace Award. I'm not sure what I've done to deserve them. Does it mean I'm a peace loving guy and an awesome fellow like a toad?

If I put the 2 awards together I guess I'm a peace loving awesome hippie who's as ugly as a toad! Thanks for the awards Erina. Peace! *ribbid*

Upgrading to LCD

I’ve been using my CRT monitors since forever and I’ve wanted to upgrade to an lcd monitor for ages. LCD displays are so much sharper than the CRT displays but they were also quite expensive.

Nowadays prices are coming down and the old CRT monitors are being phased out so it looks like its time to upgrade. A 22 inch screen will do me just fine.

Free tomatoes

In our household we throw all our green waste into the compost bin we have at the back of the gardens and that includes the leftover vegetable cuttings and what leftovers from the tomatoes Terese uses for her pasta sauce.

So when the compost is ready I'd spread them all over the garden beds like mulches and that's when the tomato seeds started to germinate and we have lots of tomato plants growing wild all over the place. I let them be and pretty soon they bear fruits and today 2 of them were ripe for the picking. Free tomatoes from the garden but they're not very big or tasty because I don't feed them with fertilizer.

Is your home insured?

I cannot stress enough about buying home owner insurance for any home owners. We bought our home owner insurance as soon as we bought our house and I’m glad we did.

When we had that water leakage from the shower upstairs which resulted in the big hole in the laundry room’s ceiling we saved ourselves a thousand dollars because the insurance pretty much covered the repair. Yes we did have to pay a small excess but it was better than paying for the whole repair bill.

Building Boba Fett's Slave 1 Step 5 & 6: Building the side wings.

Welcome back to another stage of my Slave 1 project. Today I'll show you Steps 5 and 6 in building the left and right wings of the ship.

These 2 steps are quite easy, the diagrams pretty much showed what's needed to be done; gluing the parts together except for the arm bits so it's adjustable.

The instruction calls for a mixture of Tamiya colors XF-2 and XF-20 but since I don't have an air brush I used Tamiya AS-16 spray can instead. I also painted the end bits with a mixture of Tamiya XF-49 and XF-64 to get that brownish color.

The little bit of orange on the tips of the wings is supposed to be the same yellowish color as the decals but it didn't turn out the way it should and I'm not going to change it now. Blame it on the instruction, it calls for Tamiya X-6 orange yellow but obviously it doesn't match.

Next step is a big job; building the main body. It involves spraying 2 layers of different shade of green and lots of masking involved. Show you when it's done.

Building Boba Fett's Slave 1 Step 3 & 4: Completing the cockpit.

It's been a while since I last updated on my little Slave 1 project. Thing is I'm progressing slowly but surely. Last I showed you I was painting Boba Fett to be seated in the cockpit.

Today I'm show you the works I've done in both Step 3 and 4 since they both involved building the cockpit. All the panels involved had to be painted in field gray and joined together.

Boba Fett was ready to be seated in his pilot seat as well. This is the completed cockpit with Boba inside. Next I'm off to work on the side wings...coming up next.

So still think you're above the law?

Are you one of those people who think you're above the law? That the laws of the land doesn't apply to you because you think you're special and untouchable? Well think again.

If you think you can avoid paying all those fines you've accumulated over the years and get away with it then you should know that court appointed sheriffs are allowed to seize your properties if you don't pay your fines!

First they find your property like your vehicle, then they wheel clamp it so you can't drive away and then they seize it if you don't pay your fines in a given amount of time. So still think you're above the law?
