Commonwealth Games Open Day

The Commonwealth Games is less than 100 days away and Melbourne is right on schedule to get the city ready for the big events!Today Melbourne is hosting an open day for 4 of its events venues and I will start off with the Melbourne Cricket Ground or more commonly known as the MCG.
Much have been done to upgrade this great stadium for the coming events.
The MCG is 150 years old but it doesn't look a day older with the new upgrades.
The Games' Opening and Closing Ceremonies will be held here in front of 100,000 fans and 2 billions television viewers worldwide. They are still putting in the final touches and it will be ready for the big days!
More than half of the stadium has been rebuilt in the redevelopment including the Ponsford Stand, the Olympic Stand and the MCC Members Pavilion.
The upgrade will improve the experience for the millions of spectators who pass through the gates of the MCG every year.
Looking across the railway tracks we can see the walkway that spans across to the Rod Laver Arena with the tallest domestic building in the city skyline.
This is Karak, the southeastern red-tailed Black Cockatoo, who is the official Mascot of the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.

There are also lots of entertainers to keep everyone amused but visiting the MCG is enough to keep everyone happy the whole day.

There are shuttle buses that take you to the other venues around the city so I'll take you to visit the Athlete's Village where you can see where all the athletes from all over the world will stay when they are here in March next year. That will be in my next post so stay tuned!
