The United Colours Of Multiculturism

Woah! Seems like Buddha's Birthday Party isn't over yet! I found out that despite the celebration of Buddha's birthday yesterday, the celebration continues into today!

But today being Sunday drew in more crowd than yesterday and there were more participants and volunteers. There were dragon dance and lions dance to kick start today's ceremony infront of volunteers dressed in different costumes representing the diverse cultures from Asia.

I found out today that this ceremony was organised by the Buddha's Light International Association of Victoria or BLIA in short. BLIA has branches worldwide and its membership is made up of lay Buddist followers. I thought there's only 1 type of Buddhist?

Like yesterday the abbot of the monks led the ceremony but today it was on a larger scale with a long entourage filled with VIPs and dignitaries like Lord Mayor John So who seems to spend all his Sundays here!

After the usual buddist chants and prayers, the BLIA participants made their offerings to the Buddha like flowers, incense, light and fruits. These are the 4 merits of offerings which I shall briefly explains alongside the pictures below.

Flower offering; flowers are beautiful and fragrant, yet their splendor will not last forever. Thus they illustrate the impermanence of all beings. Aren't those lovely ladies look like flowers to you!

Incense offering; aromatic incense purifies the atmosphere as well as the mind. Just as its fragrance travels afar, so do good deeds axtend for the benefit of all.

Aww..perfect smile! Light offering; Light extinguishes darkness in the same way that wisdom dispels ignorance. Bit like the light side of the Force overcoming the dark side as told by George Lucas!

Fruit offering; fruit is nutritious as well as pleasing to the taste. It also represents the result of our spiritual cultivation and helps us be mindful of the law of cause and effect. Well there you have it. I've learned some spiritual lessons today! I'm enlightened!

But what the heck, I can't deny I'm mainly here for the SYTs! C'mon Suituapui and Quavadis, do your worst. Hit me! Just remember this that I did it for all hot blooded males out there and that include you too! Hehehe...

OK, last camwhore before we say goodbye. Till next year, have a good year and remember the teachings of the Buddha! Na Mo Omi To Fuo!
