Planting Spring Flowering Bulbs

It's that time of the year again when the weather is turning cool and the days are getting shorter by the days. It's time to plant out my bulbous plants for Spring flowering. I do this every year without fail.

And if I forget to do so the bulbs will remind me like these Arab's Eyes bulbs are trying to do, sprouting their shoots out even before I had a chance to plant them out!

I will be planting these out in containers today, I like using terracotta pots like this and place a piece of crock over the drainage hole so the potting mix won't run off but still letting water drains freely.

Put in good quality potting mix to about 2/3 of the pot, add bulb fertilizer and mix well.

Choose the big strong bulbs for planting, placing them next to each other. Don't worry about cramming them too close coz they like it that way.

Fill up with more potting mix till the bulbs are all covered. Throw in more bulb fertilizer and water in well. Place the pot in a well lit position and wait for the plants to pop up over winter and the flowers to bloom in Spring! Here's how the Arab's Eyes look like last year. This has been another presentation from the Tukang Kebun Show!

You have green thumbs! The flowers look so pretty. I wish I had half a thumb as green instead of killing my plants!

Wow! I saw a gardening show on the weekend where they did exactly the same thing. :-)

Must be bulb planting season. On the show they put the bulbs in the freezer for a while ... to basically get them to think it was time to start growing. [Cause a lot of bulbs only start to grow after frosts or snow.]
