Are You Home James?

Let's go and see if Captain James Cook (Discoverer of the east coast of Australia) is home today. This is his house in the middle of Fitzroy Gardens, it was built in 1755 but was rebuilt several times in England and later purchased by Russell Grimwade in 1933.Russell Grimwade dismantled and shipped the house to Melbourne in 1934 to be reconstructed in the Fitzroy Gardens as a gift to the people of Victoria.
The cottage has since undergone two restorations and furnished with materials appropriate to the 18th century appearance surrounded by it's own gardens. I could just peered over the low fence to snap a picture of the vegetable garden in the backyard (I didn't want to pay the entry fee).
On the side of the cottage where you can see the bedroom window upstair I took another photo hoping to see James Cook himself looking out at the curious tourists outside. Well I guess he's not at home today..

..or there he is standing in the front garden, immortalized in bronze! How's it going Jimmy?! What's with all these people gate crushing your house everyday?

Colour Me Purple

The Conservatory in Fitzroy Gardens is a must see for everyone . It is Melbourne's commitment to excellence in horticulture and there are five separate displays each year. From July till September the theme is the Cineraria and Cyclamen display.
Colour me purple! The display just jumped right at you when you enter the conservatory.
The Conservatory has been opened for over 70 years and it's open everyday from 9am till 5pm.
The building copies the Spanish mission architectural style measuring 30 X 15 metres.

Be sure to sign the guest book on your way out but do come back frequently to check out all the different displays through out the year.

Tudor Village

The Tudor Village is a miniature model village situated in the centre of the Fitzroy Gardens. It was presented to the City of Melbourne in 1948 by Britain in appreciation of Melbourne's generosity in sending food to Britain during the second world war.
The Village was modelled in cement by Mr. Edgar Wilson, a 77 year old pensioner who lived in London, who carried out the task as a hobby.
The model buildings represent a typical Kentish village built during the "Tudor" period of English history.
There's the Shakespeare's House recently restored.
Ann Harthaway's Cottage another model recently restored after years of neglect.
Other buildings include a hotel here, various thatched cottages, school..
..barns, stocks, pump and other public buildings..

..including the village church which is in bad need of repair. Most of the buildings are being restored at the moment and will be returned back to the village when completed and what a sight that would be when they're all pieced together to form this delightful village!

Damn You Blogger!

Last night I nearly die! I was in a panic attack! What's wrong with me?! I think I'm in trouble, I was having withdraw syndrome from missing out my daily post. I must admit, I'm addicted to blogging! Damn you Blogger or Blogspot or whatever you call yourself, you got me hooked on blogging and I panic last night when I could not, for the love of God, upload any photos!
I think Blogger was trying out new photo uploading program where you have to login again to upload your photos but it failed miserably; everything was going well up until the end but no photo appears! So I panic and thought I reached my limit of 300MB of photo space like what Blogger says in their help files. I thought this was the end of my brief relationship with Blogger, I knew one day this day would come but so soon? Did anyone out there have this problem too?

Luckily for me I tried the upload again this morning and it works again. *Sigh* What a relief! I thought I had to find a pay web hoster now, well I suppose I'd have to one day but not right now. I'm still learning Blogging 101, maybe I would enrol with 5Xmom's school of blog! Or was it n305er's oh..one of them gurus!

The Rooster Bar

The Rooster Bar in Fairfield is THE place to get terrific char-grilled chicken if you're into chicken. Forget about KFC chicken, this place has better tasting chicken and I swear by it.
All chickens are grilled over the charcoal unlike KFC with their fried (oily) chickens.
Apart from the chicken they have a variety of salads to go with your meal.

Take home or dine in, next time you feel like chicken remember Rooster Bar!

The World Is Full Of Them

The world is full of them; idiotic, selfish, asshole, wanker drivers who's too stupid or too lazy to find a parking bay like everyone else but think they are so special that they have the god-given right to park wherever they fricking like!Come on Deeva show some decency, this is not your house where I'm sure you park anywhere you damn like. This is a public car park for crying out loud and even if you were just going to be a minute or two does not excuse you to park by the kerb on the driveway.

I'm sure if the council would paint a parking bay right there if they intended it to be one so get your ass off it. You should have your licence cancelled for six months to teach you a lesson in road courtesy.

Postscript

Swans wins the premiere over Eagles by 4 points, thought you might wanna know..

It's Finally Here!

It's finally here; the AFL Grand Final is finally here today! C'mon let's get this over and done with for another season, I'm sick of footy and after today, peace and quiet..until next season. So who's gonna win the premiership? Is it going to be the Swans or the Eagles? Couldn't give a stuff who wins since both teams are interstate teams and I really don't give a toss about football!

But being the national pass time of the nation there's still going to have a lot of people glued to their TV screens tomorrow afternoon. West Coast was the best team all year, while Sydney has been doing very well in the last few weeks. It still could be anyone's game, we shall see..

But one thing for sure; I'll be happy footy season will be over tomorrow, yes!

What's Taking So Long?

Yesterday on the way home from work, we got stuck in a traffic jam on the freeway..There were cars crawling like turtles bumper to bumper all the way to yonder and beyond..
..and more cars stuck behind mine too. What's going on? It's never been this bad, what's taking so long to move? By then it had started to rain..
As we inched slowly forward we saw the notice board telling us there was a collision up ahead and 2 lanes on the right had been closed so all traffic were to merge into the left lane and the emergency lane.
A few yards up ahead we were beginning to see the accident scene starting with these emergency workers blocking the road and signaling people to merge left.
Then we saw the emergency respond vehicle with it's merge left signal flashing but still can't see the accident yet.
Didn't take long before we come up to the scene of the collision between a taxi and I believe a semi-trailer! There was a stretcher with someone lying on it whom I believe would be the taxi driver, poor bugger I hope he's ok but I can't see his face and I fear the worst...
On closer look at the taxi it looked like the front has been smashed in together with the windscreen and liquid had spilled onto the road and someone had put some absorbant on it to soak it up.
Moving up ahead I saw the semi-trailer behind the ambulance and the toll truck, doesn't look like there's any damage to the semi-trailer.

Once we were clear of the scene the road is all clear again. That was the excitement of the day for me. Move along people, nothing to see here.

This Is Where I Am

This is where I am. This is where I live and this is the place where I shop. It is small but it is nice, cosy and full of happy friendly people just like me..And this is the place I would have a cup of coffee if I need a pick-me-up and a piece of chocolate cake.
This is the place where I buy my daily bread; Country Grain Block toast-sliced please.
This is where I get my cinnamon donuts for my afternoon craving..
This is where I'd get my flowers if I needed to for my beloved Lou Poh Jai..

And this is where I'd get my ice-cream if I needed one but I never had the need to have one. So now you know where to find me, this is where I am...

We're All Young At Hearts

Model Engineering is a fascinating hobby open to men and women of all ages. Its main function is to foster an appreciation and continue the knowledge of machinery, transport and equipment from the industrial revolution to the present day (and even beyond). This is achieved, by recreating in miniature, a working (or non-working) model of any kind of machinery or transport item that takes your fancy, be it steam powered, internal combustion or the like.

In Victoria, there are several clubs catering to this passion for miniature steam engines and they regularly have open days for the general public to enjoy what they love doing all their lives. Here we are at the Box Hill Miniature Steam Railway Society on one of their open days.

The admission is only $2.00 per person so it's cheap as chips.

For $2.00 you get to ride one of their many miniature trains which takes you a few rounds through their miniature landscape.

The train will take you into their mini depot where they repair and maintain their trains.

It is definitely worth the money you pay for so I would encourage everyone to go for a ride at least once. Do not be afraid to get on the ride for fear of breaking the train because it can take many people including adults, in fact they recommend adults travel with children to keep them safe.

They are at the corner of Elgar and Belmore Streets in Box Hill and open every 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month except December.

Greenies Worst Nightmare..

These trees have been sacrificed in the name of progress. The council is replacing old sewerage pipes and these trees are in the way so they have to go.The branches are cut off first leaving the stumps jutting up from the ground.

I hope they won't get rid of the stumps because they make great wooden statues by chainsaw artists that I've seen elsewhere before. Maybe that's what they have in mind so I'd have to check back on them in the near future. Watch this space.

Selfish SOB

Bunnings on the weekend is the busiest time of the week and parking is usually a hassle with limited spaces available for everyone. So imagine my disgust when I see this vehicle using up 2 parking bays! The owner of this vehicle should be shot, who does he/she thinks he/she is. Just because you bought a brand new car does not give you the right to take up 2 parking bays for your own selfishness. Show some respect for your fellow drivers, I'm sure whoever that may park next to you will try their utmost to avoid denting your vehicle. But even if it was dented so what, you can't keep your vehicle scratch free for ever!

I nearly wanted to put some scratches on the panels myself but that would be putting myself in your level. I just hope you will realise it is just a car, it's bound to get scratched one way or another so stop treating it like a baby! Gimme a f**king break you selfish SOB!
