The Fairies Tree in The Fitzroy Gardens was carved by Miss Ola Cohn between 1931 to 1934 on the stump of a dead Red Gum trees believed to be well over 300 years in age. Miss Cohn worked on the likenesses of fairies, dwarfs, gnomes, jackass, koalas, flying foxes and a host of Australian animals and birds.
In 1977 the trunk was extracted from the ground for chemical treatment and removal of rotted wood. It is then remounted on a concrete base to prolong its life.
