Commonwealth Games Open Day Part 2

As I promised in my last post I am going to show you the Commonwealth Games Village where all the athletes from around the world will be staying.
The village is located in Parkville consisting of 20ha of land which also incorporates the Royal Park Wetlands.
This will be homes to about 5800 athletes as well as officials from 71 nations.
During the Games, the village will include 155 detached houses, 32 studios, 25 townhouses, 103 apartments and 115 temporary-accomodation buildings.
After the Games, the village will become known as Parkville Gardens and include about 1000 new houses and additional parkland.
During the Games, the heritage buildings will be used to provide accomodation for athletes and officials.
The Games Village site has an interesting past. It has been an experimental farm, a school and a psychiatric institution!
About a fifth of the homes will be social housing, for low-income and disadvantaged people, scattered throughout the development.
After the Games, they will be the focal point for a new community, offering a childcare centre and a community centre.
I met a couple of athletes in there, with sportsmen like them we are bound to win all the gold medals!
This is the kitchen where all the athletes will be eating their meals! Check out the enormous size of it!
This is the kitchen area inside the dining hall. This place is really huge!

In my next post I will be showing you the State Netball & Hockey Centre so make sure you come back!
