Bukit Lima Forest Park

Not many people in Sibu has been to the Bukit Lima Forest Park and the first time I heard about it was when Bengbeng told me the other night. So I asked my brother-in-law to take us there to check it out.

The park was officially opened in 2001 but there are future plans to continue building the park to become the largest wetland park in the world, funds permitting of course! The first 2 phases of the project was completed at RM1.5 million with an area of 280 hectare of forest.

It has a 3 kilometre long plankwalk that takes you deep into the forest and back out again in about an hour! Yes, we walked the whole 3 kilometre track through the rainforest enjoying what nature had to offer.

Every now and then you find pergolas along the way just in case you're tired and need a bit of rest. Depending on the time of the day, you may find joggers and leisure walkers in the park. The wooden plankwalk can get a bit slippery when it rains so wear proper footwears.

There's even a canal dug out to encourage aquatic life, they are planning to link the park via this canal to another forest park at Sungai Merah Heritage Walk some 12 km away. That should be fun when the project's completed!

Enjoy the flora while you're there, I don't know what these flowers are but they're just some of the many kinds of plants I saw while I was there. One thing I do worry about while walking in there was getting mugged but I think Sibu is quite safe from that sort of things happening. Not that it never happened coz rumour has it that it did happened once!

The only wild life we did see in there was this hairy caterpillar on the plankwalk. Other than that I didn't see anything else, very quiet except for the occasional joggers running past us. At time it can get a bit spooky especially when its getting dark and you wish you've never went in so deep!

So go to the Bukit Lima Forest Park if you are in Sibu or you're going there. Its a nice place for a jog, a walk, be one with nature or just bring your girlfriend there for pahtoring. But watch out for suspicious looking characters!

Agree with 'simple american'...that hairy little critter looks like its wearing a sash..like those in beauty pageants.I cant make out which end is the head or tail! But i know its not a good idea to touch one of these cos u get an allergic skin reaction. Thanks for all the great pics u have been posting. Makes armchair travellers out of many of us who are stuck at home.
