Happy Father's Day, BaPa.

Father's Day is a day of commemoration and celebration of Dad. It is a day to not only honour your father, but all men who have acted as a father figure in your life - whether as Stepfathers, Uncles, Grandfathers, or "Big Brothers."

The idea for creating a day for children to honour their father's began in Spokane, Washington USA. A woman by the name of Sonora Smart Dodd thought of the idea for Father's Day while listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909.

Mrs. Dodd wanted a special day to honour her father, William Smart. After his wife died in childbirth with their sixth child, William Smart was left to raise the newborn and his other five children by himself on a rural farm in eastern Washington State. Sonora wanted her father to know how special he was to her. Throughout their life, it was her father that made all the parental sacrifices and was, in the eyes of his daughter, a courageous, selfless, and loving man.

Father’s day is now celebrated internationally, with Australia’s Father's Day landing on the first Sunday of September each year, this year being the 4th September.

Have a wonderful day, Ba Pa!
