We're All Young At Hearts

Model Engineering is a fascinating hobby open to men and women of all ages. Its main function is to foster an appreciation and continue the knowledge of machinery, transport and equipment from the industrial revolution to the present day (and even beyond). This is achieved, by recreating in miniature, a working (or non-working) model of any kind of machinery or transport item that takes your fancy, be it steam powered, internal combustion or the like.

In Victoria, there are several clubs catering to this passion for miniature steam engines and they regularly have open days for the general public to enjoy what they love doing all their lives. Here we are at the Box Hill Miniature Steam Railway Society on one of their open days.

The admission is only $2.00 per person so it's cheap as chips.

For $2.00 you get to ride one of their many miniature trains which takes you a few rounds through their miniature landscape.

The train will take you into their mini depot where they repair and maintain their trains.

It is definitely worth the money you pay for so I would encourage everyone to go for a ride at least once. Do not be afraid to get on the ride for fear of breaking the train because it can take many people including adults, in fact they recommend adults travel with children to keep them safe.

They are at the corner of Elgar and Belmore Streets in Box Hill and open every 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month except December.
