This coming Tuesday is Melbourne Cup Day meaning its a public holiday only in Victoria but because it falls on a Tuesday many people takes the Monday off to make it a defacto long weekend!
We were going to go to Sydney for the long weekend but we ended up not going. According to the weather forecast its going to rain in Sydney so its a good thing we're not going. We're such sourgrapes!
Today with not much happening except for the market at Yarra Glen we decided to take the 45 minute drive there since its going to be a nice day out. Fresh air and the countryside will do us good!
On the way back from the market we stopped by an old sheep station called Gulf Station which is one of the pioneer farms in the Yarra Valley. The homestead and farm buildings, together with the farm tools have been restored to depict life in the 19th century farm.
Here's the entrance to the cottage where you are required to buy tickets to enter the property. We didn't go further into the property but had a brief stroll in the cottage garden before heading back.
There were farm animals and farm activities inside which we didn't get to see. Never mind, if you've seen one farm, you've seen them all! We then continued our drive to Kinglake, then to Hurstbridge and finally home. Its a lazy Sunday afternoon.
