You Not Chinese Ah?

This is a rant post and it may offend some people so if you think you may be offended, well...*ppffft* Go away! This post is about discriminations and some people may think that for Asians to be living in Australia they would be subject to prejudices from the Mat Sallehs but for someone like me who's been living here for so many years I can tell you that in all the years I've lived here I've endured more prejudices from the Chinese than from Mat Sallehs!

I don't know why but some people think that Cantonese IS Chinese and if you can't speak or understand Cantonese then you are not Chinese! I must admit as a Chinese I don't speak nor write Chinese and certainly don't speak Cantonese either even though Terese is Cantonese but we always converse in English with a few Cantonese words thrown in every now and then.

Lemme tell you a true story that happened to me years ago when I went shopping in a Chinese grocery shop. I was looking for a particular product but I didn't know how to say it so I asked the tauke-nio in English. That kurang ajar tauke-nio couldn't speak English but had the audacity to tell her friend "Tong yang m-sih gong tong yua" meaning Chinese can't speak Chinese! Or another time when the tauke said to me; " You not Chinese ah?" That's the kind of mentality some people have, all Chinese are Cantonese and if you're not then you're something else!

This ain't the only time I got treatment lidat, it happens quite often for people like me like today when I went to buy some 'pau' from this food court in Box Hill. The stewpig bugger got annoyed that I wouldn't speak Cantonese to him! I told him to smile coz I'm the blardy customer and he's the one who has to be patient with me and not the other way around. He just kept quiet so I didn't continue further. It's people like these that give the Chinese a bad reputation, no wonder some Mat Sallehs look at us with distrust.

The Sun Very Big

OK ladies and genitalmen, this is not a sponsored post so you don't have to run away. I just wanna share with you guys a very good product I've been using for many years now but I didn't seem to see them being used in Malaysia where the sun everyday very big and hot!

I'm talking about shade sails used to block out the sun if your house has a problem area where you get very strong sun like in my back door where it's facing west so it gets the afternoon sun everyday. What you need is a ready made shade sail and some hooks and crooks to tie it.

First make 2 O-ring screws into your wall or awning and attach 2 corners of the shade sail to them using the clip hooks. I really dunno what those gadgets are called so I just made them up but you know what I'm talking about right?

Once the 2 corners are attached proceed to attach the other 2 corners using the hooks that have the straps on so you can use them as ties to the wall or to any strong structure that will support the shade sail even in strong wind.

I attached it to my fence which is strong enough but notice I have a ratchet device that I can tighten the strap so you get a bit of tension on the strap thus giving the shade sail a good and firm 'pull' like tightening your badminton racket lidat!

Job done! See...nice and cool underneath it. This one is 3.6 metre square but you can get 5 metre square one if you want it bigger. You can even get triangle shape also but if you have funny funny shape in your backyard that won't fit these then you can get people to custom made for you but cost a bit more lah.

This way in Summer I not sked of the big sun in the back of my house but I take them off in Winter to let in the warm sun. So you like onot? Dunno if you can get in Malaysia but if you can't but you still want I buy for you lah. You chia me kopi-o enuff liao!

My Miracle Mom: Part II

To all the mothers of the world, have a wonderful day today! Hope you're all having a great day with your family, all I can do today is to give my mom a call later. I tried just then but she's gone to church so I'll try after I've finish writing this post.

Last year I told you about how my mom beat the odds to come out a winner against cancer. She's been cancer free for another year which is another miracle. Everyday is a miracle coz she's still with us and we have the Almighty to thank for that.

Not all is hunky dory I'm afraid. After extensive chemotherapy my mom's health has deteriorated and has never really recovered. Though she has been cancer free all these time she is never the same as before she had the cancer. She gets anxiety attacks, short tempered and memory loss. When she talks she can talk for forever not letting you have a word in but mainly repeating the same things over and over again because she had 'forgotten' that she's said that before. She also can't stand being idle, she needs to have company all the time and gets panic attacks if she's alone that's why she would ring up everyone just to talk...even at the weirdest hours! I'm a bad son, sometimes I would get very impatient with her and try to avoid a conversation with her because she can be a pain. I know it's not her fault coz she's not herself anymore but still I feel guilty when I do that...I think I'll try to call her again to wish her a Happy Mother's Day.

I "Heart" PPP!

It has just been over a month since I joined PayPerPost and so far I’m still loving it! Where's your ticket?

I haven't used the public transport for 17 years now mainly because it's damn unreliable and expensive. Plus the services have deteriorated over the years but they're still very harsh on people who try to ride using buying a ticket. They hired lots of inspectors to catch them but done away with the conductors to save a few bucks!

I took this photo one day at a traffic light and it seems like the inspectors have caught someone riding without a ticket. The passenger is frantically searching his bag for his ticket which I'm sure is not there as the 3 big burly inspectors stood over him.

The poor guy is just a kid and he must be shitting himself. I don't know what exactly happened that day but from what I saw it does look like 3 big white men thumbing 1 frightened black kid!

Wuching At The Movies

Tonight's the night we're going to that free movie we won last week at Hoyts in Victoria Garden. After work we grabbed a quick bite to eat in Richmond before going straight there.

We got there early of course and there was hardly anyone around just yet and the shops were closing so there wasn't much to do but sit and wait...after a few minutes I began to grow restless so I did what normal bloggers would do, camwhore!

It wasn't long before they started letting people into the theaters so off I went to watch a girlie movie! I was expecting a disaster but it didn't turned out that bad, I stayed awake through out the movie so I'd say it's OK lah, Lindsay Lohan was a sexy SYT, Felicity Huffman was a hawt but desperate housewife and Jane Fonda was...erm, well she used to be a sex bomb long time ago. I give it 3 out of 5 stars so if you like girlie movies then this movie's for you!

Tell us about the nicknames you were called when you were younger.

Ho! I used to get so many nicknames thrown at me by all those evil bullying kids in school and people in my neighbourhood like Hoo Jing lah, Hoo Li Jin lah, Big Ears lah, Ah Niu Kor lah and not so long ago even Elvis pulak! People are so mean, I have feeling too OK! Hurt my feeling lidat, lucky for them I'm not the revenging kind.

Hoo Jing used to be a Hong Kong movie star long long time ago when I was still a kid. If you're not as old as me then you probably dunno who she is but you just need to know that she used to play hiaw hiaw san ku liu poh kinda characters so imagine my hurt when kids call me by her name simply because my name sounds like hers. That really scar me for life!

Hoo Li Jin is a mandarin word literally meaning 'vixen demon' a type of evil spirit that prey on innocent men by seducing them into adultery or something lidat. Did I explain correct onot? Help me out here anyone? Reason people called me that is more or less the same as the reason for Hoo Jing coz my name sounds lidat mah. Ahhhh...I damn angry and tulan when people called me that before!

Big Ears was actually a nickname my family gave me. Yeah, what a great family I had didn't I? Why? Coz when I was growing up I had very big ears so all the relatives call me Big Ears lor. I didn't like it and would punch and kick them back when they called me that and then get told off by my parents! You say crappy onot? Then some uncle would say big ears mean good life but up till today I still searching for my good life. Here...good life, where are you good life?

Ah Niu Kor you probably know is something to do with cow or bull. Reason is my surname sounds like it and so people would call me that, even my ex-boss used to call me that every now and then! I should've sue him kau kau for workplace bully and bankrupt him!

Last but not least would be Elvis which was given to me only about 10 years ago by my friend coz I used to style my hair like Elvis punya hairstyle mah! You know Elvis' hair back in his younger days? But now I cut my hair short short so no more Elvis for me, infact not anymore nicknames for a long long time so it's good! I like it that way so don't you guys start calling me by my nicknames again har!

Creepy Crawlies of the horror kind!

I love a good thriller movie and it looks like a really good one is coming soon to a theater near us. The movie is called Bug and judging from the two posters below, it’s a bug movie about creepy crawlies of the horror kind!

I like the one in black and white with insect appendages and feelers sticking out here and there. Eww...so creepy! The other one is quite tame, like a ghost story kind of movie but nevertheless it will be a great thriller of a movie I’m sure.

Ashley Judd stars in this movie possibly as the queen of the bugs and not a bad looking bug she is too! Other stars include Michael Shannon and Harry Connick Jr. The story centers on a lonely waitress who has a tragic past living in fear of her abusive husband. She then falls in love with a drifter and began to feel hope again until the bugs start arriving…the thriller doesn’t show any giant mutant bugs attacking humans so it’s safe to say that the bugs somehow infect the people and then there’s plenty of chaos and mayhem that follow! I won’t spoil it for you. You can check out the trailer for yourself and I think you’re going to like it too.
