Welcome back to the Tukang Kebun Show. Today I'm going to share with you a simple tip on turning your rubbish into good use!
The rain stopped today which gave me an opportunity to resume my work outside. Once a year in winter I'd prune my roses hard and clear most of my perenial bushes back to make ways for young new shoots in Spring.
Rose clippings are full of diseases which I'd throw out in the green bin but I also ended up with piles of green wastes from the perenial bushes like the catmints and other herbs I got in my backyard.
I could just throw all my green wastes away into the green bin but a better alternative is to turn them into green manure! I knew I made the right choice when I bought my mulching mower where it not only cut the grass but will also shred them into fine pieces. So if you're in the market for a new lawn mower, get a mulching mower like I did and you'll never regret it! I ran my mulching mower over the pile of green wastes to shreds and ended up with...
...a pile of green clippings! You can use these to mulch your garden beds but I found that they tend to get slimey when wet but hard and crusty when its hot and dry. What I do is collect them and put them into my...
...compost bin to let it rot down before I'll use the composted materials for the garden beds! This way nothing is wasted and I get free compost which I use to enrich the soil in the garden! Its all good for the environments!
This has been a community service broadcast brought to you by your friendly neighbourhood tukang kebun. Till next time, happy kebuning!

Yeah... Good idea man...
Can you poo inside and make extra fertiliser like dat? LOL
I've been tempted to make my own compost but scared it'll smell too much. You know our Malaysian weather lar...
I'll love to see your roses when they are in bloom. I had a few rose bushes I plant in pots. Surprisingly, they bloom all the time. Probably these are hybrid. I remembered when I was a child, roses were very fussy plants. But I guess not anymore.. lol
Wah, you plant papaya or durian in your garden?
So, do you use your shit as fertilisers too?
wong: thank you!
5xmom: aiya..too unhygenic to use human wastes lah! but chicken, sheep or cow manure can be used!
helen: give it a go..if ur worry about the smell, put it as far as u can from the house but make sure u keep turning the compost heap so as to let it rot down quicker.
modern roses r very easy to grow nowadays & very disease resistent, in malaysia with no seasons they will bloom all year round unlike here where there's no bloom in winters. u can check out my roses here; http://wuching.blogspot.com/2005/07/welcome-to-my-backyard.html
neo: soli lah but cannot grow papaya or durians here..i wish!
cocka: nolah! chicken manure i can use lah so cocka, do ur bit!
it works much better (the compost) if you indeed add some shit into it. If you can get loads fo cow dung or horse shit mix it in, and let it compost that way, it would be great.
I'm not bluffing you. Saw a documentary about this some years ago.
hey, it looks just like my friend's garden, complete with the compost bin. and they added things like the skin of fruits and etc to speed up the process. awwww, you reminded me of them.
Wuching...Tukang Kebun Show again ah?
Aunty..you can use poo..if u can tahan the smell lah..hahahaha..but your anak punya pee pee directly on the plants/flowers can be quite good also :P
Wuch..have u tried adding leftovers into the compost bin or you don't have leftovers in your house :P
Great that you're going green! ;)
ah pek: yes i agree with u about the manure, manure like cow dung, horse dung, chicken poo all can mix in with the compost but not human waste lar coz of hygenic reasons..i dun have any cow maure to add unless i buy them which i dun want to! so just use whats left-overs from the garden & kitchen too!
me: good to know ur friend's into home composting & yes i do mix in the kitchen wastes like fruit skins & used tea bags! but meat r a no no!
QV: why u dun like my tukang kebun show? :(
pee should not be applied to plants directly coz it'd burn the roots! too strong but if let it age for a week b4 diluting with water, then apply to plants is full of nitrogen! but very smelly lah!
yes i do use kitchen leftovers & yes i do have leftovers in the house!
Wah..I tot your house have no lefteovers :P hehehehehehehe
No..not bored..just that two days running we are on the Tukang Kebun Show...got any other show running or not? Or still writting the script :P
you cut your own grass?
that's soooo, like, manual labour. eww.
paris hiltons like me would rather pay some grass-cutting fella rm12 every 2-3 weeks to mow the lawn.
LOL.
QV: aiya, what ur waiting for another blockbuster ah? how about "The Suituapui Club" coming to this blog soon...
hedo: i could pay someone to do it but i need the exercise myself!
HAHAHA...tat should be interesting....just make sure its not some strip joint of fat guys hahahaha..or even fat ladies for that matter..the world is already sick as it is....hehehehe
Now what STP Club??? Just away for one morning and already conspiring!!! Hey, WC...that reminds me of the TV show Home Improvement with that dumb-dumb guy, Tim Allen??? Wah...u're so good at it, next time come to Sibu can cut my grass!!!
Ahh..there you are..was wondering which hole you went and hide in STP :P hehehehe...
I think if Wuching come back M'sia..he can cut grass for all the bloggers for a fee and I'm sure he'll be able to cover his expenses hahahaha

STP: cut grass in malaysia i'll give it a pass! too hot lah! the sun veli big!
