The Tukang Kebun Show

Welcome back to the Tukang Kebun Show. As you may recall I planted some petunia way back in October last year and quickly they flourished after 7 weeks.
This was how the petunia looked at their best during the warmer months of the year.

And this is how they look now in the colder months of the year! Well they are summer loving annuals so they only thrive in the warmer months but will die back in winter. There's no point resurrecting them coz they are way past their use by date!

I'm going to replace them with some cool climate annuals instead! These are Bellis or commonly known as English Daisy and they are native to Europe and North Africa. Though they prefer cooler climates Malaysians can still grow these in places like Cameron and Genting Highlands in West Malaysia and Kinabalu National Park and Kundasang in Sabah.

I got rid of the petunia and the growing medium completely and replaced with fresh good quality potting mix, filled up half-way and add in some slow release fertilisers like Osmocote. Mix well and its ready for the daisies.


Plant in the daisies, back fill to just below the rim of the pot so when you water it will create a reservoir before soaking right down and out the drainage hole. Sprinkle a few more slow release fertilisers before giving it a good soaking and that's it! Place in a sunny spot and make sure they don't dry out. Give them some liquid fertiliser every fortnight for vigorous growth. Soon they will spread all over the pot and filled with red daisies which I will update layer!
