Enemy to my plants

Yesterday morning I took in a bunch of catalogs they dropped off in my letterbox. I get tons of these advertising stuff every week but most of them just end up in the recycle bin.

Bad news from home

Just got a phone call from my Mum back in Sibu. It was a bit of bad news I'm afraid; my aunt or my father's brother's wife is dying. She's in the hospital now and doesn't look like she's going to pull through.

I asked my Mum what was her illness but she couldn't give me a straight answer, kept babbling on about her internal organs are gone, all messed up or something like that. That's clear as mud, what's her sickness I asked again to which she said her stomach exploded! Her description is hilarious but I think she doesn't really know what my aunt is suffering from either.

Anyway all her children from Australia have gone back to be by her side now and looks like her reservation's booked in heaven. I'm not going to pretend that in some miraculous way we all pray and she'll get better. Even the doctors said no cure liao so we might as well say good bye. Good bye aunty.

I'm starting a new hobby

A blogger friend of mine had just been banned by Google Adsense due to "illegal clicks" so they said. 2007 Solar Decathlon

Have you heard about the BP Solar Decathlon yet? What the hell is that?

Dunno what kinda toys kids play nowadays. Last week was school holiday and the boss son came in with him and showed me a toy he got as birthday present.

Its some kind of silicon ball but its all soft and doesn't bounce and has what looks like a fishnet stocking wrapped around it. But its squeezable so it exercises your hand when you squeeze it.

So when you squeeze it the soft silicon inside will ooze out of the fishnet stocking but will not break or get damage. Is this what they put inside womens breasts as implants?

And when you squeeze it even harder the silicon will ooze out even more, so much so its starting to look yucky. Like some kinda cancerous cells inside the body!

But amazingly it will never break or tear no matter how hard you squeeze it, you'll just get a clump of masty looking cancerous cells. And when you let go it goes back to its original shape again. Watch the video below to see what I mean;

Mountain Ghosts

I'm trying very hard to remember an old grandma story that I heard from a few people when I was very little back in Malaysia. I think a lot of people would know this story but I just cannot remember everything about it. I hope you do so you can tell me about it too coz I tried asking my mum again about it but she said she cannot remember it either.

I think we used to call them "mountain ghosts" literally translated from Chinese. They are little child spirits that live in the mountains or forests and like to play with little children. When children went missing back then these so called mountain ghosts were to blame.

They would take the child into the forest to play and feed them frogs but the child would be blinded by them and thought they're eating chicken instead. They would also plug mud into the child's ears so they can't hear people calling for them when they come looking. But after a few days these mountain ghosts would usually release the child when they're tired playing with them. That's why when the grown ups find the missing child he or she would be all covered with mud because the mountain ghosts did that to them!

Lunch was good

Well lunch was good, we had ciabatta toasts with shaved Virginian ham, avocado and tomatoes. Yummy...we're going to see the accountant later and to hand over some paperworks and his fees for doing our taxes. We've been using the same accountant to do our taxes for many years now. He's an Italian Australian and his wife was from Malaysia.

We're expecting some refunds from the tax department this year so I can hardly wait. Hmmm...what should we do with the refunds? Spend it on more Star Wars figurines? Maybe but most likely we'll need it to pay off the credit cards since we put everything on the credit cards nowadays. They earn us Flybuys points but we need to be careful we don't overspend.

A good buy

We were at the Salvos yesterday after work and I found this big fish bowl selling for $18 only. A bowl like that would normally cost $40 to $50 in a shop so it's a good buy for us. True it's second hand but after we washed it when we brought it home it looks just like a brand new one!

So what are we going to put it there? More fish? I could but we'll wait and see first, in the meantime Terese is going to put her knick knacks in there like her origami stuff. I think those tiny tiny guppies would look really nice in there so a trip to the aquarium might be in the agenda this weekend.

Pigface

We saw this succulent in a mixed business shop today and Terese likes the big pink flowers it has so we decided to buy it. It was only $3.50 so no need to think too much, just get it.
The botanical name for it is Carpobrotus acinaciformis or commonly known as the larger version of Pigface. Pigface is a common plant found in many Malaysian gardens and this is the larger cousin of it but they're all from the succulent family. In Malaysia we call them literally 'sun flower' because the flowers open when the sun comes out and close when the sun sets.

Anyway I soon regret buying it when I got it home and wanted to transplant it into a bigger pot. When I took it out of the plastic container I found out that it hasn't even grown roots yet. What the shopkeeper has done was pick some cuttings from his own backyard and stuck them in a pot of dirt to sell to unsuspecting people like us. We basically spent $3.50 for a few cuttings, a plastic pot and some dirt. I should have known better judging from the way the stems are all bunched together and half buried in the pot lidat. They will probably grow in a few weeks time but I would prefer to buy a more established plant than some cuttings from someone's backyard! And yes the shop is owned by Chinese famously known for their unscrupulously business ethics.

You scratch my back...

This is great! I'm using my work's PC to download bittorent movies overnight after work and they're all good quality recent movies. On top of that my boss is okay with it because I'm also downloading movies he wants for his grandchildren so it's a matter of you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours.

Recently the boss has been naughty; first this movie downloads and next was DVD copying and he has asked me to help him do it. He watches those classical music concerts DVD which bore the hell out of me but I don't mind helping him because like I said...you scratch me back... But the problem is there's only one laptop in the whole office that has a DVD burner and the boss' wife has it. Sometimes she doesn't come in so I can't do the DVD copying then. It's taken nearly 2 weeks and still I haven't copy any DVD for them. Never mind, if they want it they will have to let me full use of that laptop because I'm not taking them home to copy!

Just woke up and hour and a half ago and went into the backyard to check out what damages the possums have done. Lord behold! More damages! I'll post more on this later but I'm thinking of getting one of those ultra-sonic devices that only animals can hear but us humans can't. They're supposed to be able to irritate the hell out of these creatures into not coming back into my yard again including possums, birds and other small animals. Problem is they cost a bomb and I dunno if it'll work onot. So far all my previous remedies don't work so I may have to get it soon.

Laundry Day

Was at BigW on Saturday when I spotted this battle pack selling at very cheap price. I dunno but somehow BigW always sells cheaper than others though they haven't got much.

It's the Betrayal on Felucia pack with Master Jedi Aayla Secura and her team that eventually betrayed her on the Order 66. It has Commander Bly in there which is a rarity nowadays because Commander Bly is out of stock for a long time now.
