We wanted some lights in the garden at night but never got into installing proper lighting except for the porch light at the back door.
Then we came across these el-cheapo garden lights selling at Kmart for $30 a box. Comes with 6 lamps per box so we bought 2 boxes since its only $5 per lamp.
Surprisingly they don't look crappy with silver finish like the really expensive types. All we had to do was attach the stacks to the bases of the lamps and they're ready to go.
There's a little green paper tag and we're supposed to remove that before use coz it stops the battery getting charged and discharging. But when we took it off...
...the light came on! The batteries are pre-charged so we can use it straight away however it will recharge the battery whenever the sun comes out.
So we thought we gave it a test run, we stuck the lamps randomly all over the backyard during the day just to let them charge up a bit before night fall.
And when it was dark...there's pale ghostly lights all over the backyard! They're not very bright but I wasn't expecting bright lights from these solar powered $5 lamp anyway. Don't know why but after a few nights the light grows dimmer and dimmer maybe because the batteries need longer charging time and daylight is short this time of the year. So what do you think? Waste of money?

Hmm...someone told me the same thing about these solar-powered lights. Not very bright...
We have similar lamps in our back garden. One stopped working, but other is still going strong after many many years! [About 3 or 4 years].
i been eyeing them for ages but it costs abt 100 - 180rm in sibu parkson supermarket each. :(
also my dog will destroy them in a day :(
Well...solar powered lamps are definitely dimmer than normal lighted lamps. But it can be quite romantic if they are placed properly. Try changing them for few more days. Maybe they will turned out to be better than you expected.
Hey...your potted plants looked real beautiful. :)
the one in my garden is useless, because it's like a jungle back there

Hey I think the solar powered lights are beautiful.
How come you never show us this part of your garden? You have a very pretty pot of cactus.
Looks cool and it's low maintenance.
Well, nothing's perfect all the time. Sometimes dim lights can look nice.
Wow, your garden is really beautiful. So, this type of lamps do work!?
pelf: nolah, they're very cheap wan...& crappy!
narrowband: mine are even worse...maybe becoz no sunlight now so cannot charge properly
che-cheh: aiya, where i can show everything to u wan?
jonzz: some of them are not even lighting up now!
jasmine: no, dun waste ur money!
Solar powered lights are lidat one. Not very bright, but someone told me they do p get brighter as you expose them to longer sunlight (but don't quote me on this, haha). For $30 a box, not bad lah.
cc: yeah, now all i have to do is wait for summer to come so days are longer so can charge longer!
