Laksa King

My mechanic friend Duke told me about this little cheap eat in Kensington that he and his wife go quite frequently. "They have very nice malaysian foods especially the laksa." said Duke "You have to try it, its better than Baba House!"

So off we went and found this little shop tucked away inside a small shopping center that has seen better days. You can place your orders outside at the front for quick takeaways or you could have a sit-down meal inside.

We got there a bit after the lunchtime rush so it was rather quiet which was just the way I like it. You can come in through the backway which also has a public carpark so it is an added advantage.

We ordered some pan fried pork dumplings which was quite nice. They taste a bit like japanese gyozas. 2 thumbs up from me, lets hope they keep it up on the mains.

Terese ordered the nasi lemak with chicken but she was a bit disappointed, there was a lot of fatty skins and bones left with the chicken pieces. 1 thumb down from her!

I had the laksa since they call themselves 'Laksa King' so I just have to know how good they are. Sadly, I was disappointed as well. The sauce tastes funny and a bit on the sour side too! 1 thumb down from me too!

I don't think we'll be coming back here again. Sorry Duke but Baba House is still better and I've yet to be disappointed by them so we're still going to Baba House.

Hmm... when I'm in Melbourne, I would still prefer Terese's homecook meals... :)

the laksa looks weird, like they put too much coconut milk (santan) in it - i like my laksa blood red and super spicy!

the nasi lemak looks kinda bland, too - not anough peanuts, anchovies and sambal.

the dumplings look all right though...

when i was in melbourne, i'd cook my own laks with the paste i brought over from home - beats any laksa shop in town (then) ;)

btw, does therese cook kampua for her foochow hubby? hehe

amelia: no problem but u can see from my blog, we don't get to stay home & cook often coz we're both busy people..that's why we eat out often :(

jeremy: when u come here next time, u can cook laksa @ my place! kampua is not terese's type of cooking, she cooks a lot of western foods.

Yep. I know. We'll do it on a weekend & let Terese know that I'm a good kitchen helper. :)

Thanks mate, have a good weekend to both of you. :)

helen: ur glad i'm a guy & u've seen my pic so do u like what u see? :) hehehe...

Hi, just random blog hopping and came across your site. Been to Laksa King before. They are more renowned for their Assam Laksa (you know the Penang kind) than anything else. It's as good as the real deal in Penang (well almost!).

foodcrazee: i'll get jeremy c to do that when he's here.

sue l: hmm...not a fan of assam laksa thot.

The nasi lemak look nice though...the laksa looks not so nice, the color a bit out...

Laksa in penang is not curry one....and the picture you posted doesn't look like Asam Laksa at all so its definitely not the Penang kind.....or maybe the chef thought combining Asam Laksa and Curry Laksa would turn out nicer....hehe...

robin: i prefer curry laksa with lots of coconut.

soohk: yes, i agree that's why i'm not going back there again for laksa!

chin kian: i don't know what the chef was doing, maybe he was too doped up to know what he was doing..either way, they've lost me.

Yalah! Really "phian ah mo"! Got kampua in Auckland going for NZ$8!!! More expensive than Ming Kong's king prawn noodles in Sibu! And it tastes yucky! I can make much better kampua with instant noodles! And the msian laksa is actually curry noodles!!! Giant portions...but tastewise, 1 star!

STP: oh i'm dreaming of ming kong's prawn noodle now!

There Chicken Curry Laksa is the best ever! (yes I am a westerner) muahhahaha!!

I agree. The Laksa tastes a little sour and off. I've definitely had waaay better. Laksa King is so overrated. People go there assuming that the laksa there is exellent and fabolous due to the deceiving title "Laksa King." I'm never gonna go there again.
