Building Boba Fett's Slave 1 Step 7: The Main Hull Part 1

It's been a long while since I updated on my Slave 1 project again. Well I can only find time on the weekends so if the weekend is choke full of things to do then the project will have to wait.

But today I managed to do a bit more. I'm on Step 7 now; building the main hull of the ship. I needed 3 different colors for the hull and since I don't have an air brush I had to resort to using spray can paints.

And I couldn't find the 3 modeling spray can paints as per instruction! So I had to pick the colors closest to them, I found 2 matching quite close but the last one I had to find one from the hardware store. Its an ordinary spray can but the color is as close as I can get to so it'll have to do.

This is the hull of the ship, I had to glue the 2 parts together and the other smaller pieces that go with it as well before painting. I tried to cover up the seam where the 2 pieces meet with a model putty but ended up making a mess of it and had to sand it down to start again!

This is the first color to go on it, I will have to add in other colors later. The spray can I got from the hardware store is crappy because when I first started it came out powdery and rough but smooth up later so I ended up with one side rough and the other side smooth! I think I'll lightly sand it down and give it another light spray again tomorrow.

Thanks for the awards

I was given 2 awards by Erna Law; the Toadally Awesome Award and the Peace Award. I'm not sure what I've done to deserve them. Does it mean I'm a peace loving guy and an awesome fellow like a toad?

If I put the 2 awards together I guess I'm a peace loving awesome hippie who's as ugly as a toad! Thanks for the awards Erina. Peace! *ribbid*

Upgrading to LCD

I’ve been using my CRT monitors since forever and I’ve wanted to upgrade to an lcd monitor for ages. LCD displays are so much sharper than the CRT displays but they were also quite expensive.

Nowadays prices are coming down and the old CRT monitors are being phased out so it looks like its time to upgrade. A 22 inch screen will do me just fine.

Free tomatoes

In our household we throw all our green waste into the compost bin we have at the back of the gardens and that includes the leftover vegetable cuttings and what leftovers from the tomatoes Terese uses for her pasta sauce.

So when the compost is ready I'd spread them all over the garden beds like mulches and that's when the tomato seeds started to germinate and we have lots of tomato plants growing wild all over the place. I let them be and pretty soon they bear fruits and today 2 of them were ripe for the picking. Free tomatoes from the garden but they're not very big or tasty because I don't feed them with fertilizer.

Is your home insured?

I cannot stress enough about buying home owner insurance for any home owners. We bought our home owner insurance as soon as we bought our house and I’m glad we did.

When we had that water leakage from the shower upstairs which resulted in the big hole in the laundry room’s ceiling we saved ourselves a thousand dollars because the insurance pretty much covered the repair. Yes we did have to pay a small excess but it was better than paying for the whole repair bill.

Building Boba Fett's Slave 1 Step 5 & 6: Building the side wings.

Welcome back to another stage of my Slave 1 project. Today I'll show you Steps 5 and 6 in building the left and right wings of the ship.

These 2 steps are quite easy, the diagrams pretty much showed what's needed to be done; gluing the parts together except for the arm bits so it's adjustable.

The instruction calls for a mixture of Tamiya colors XF-2 and XF-20 but since I don't have an air brush I used Tamiya AS-16 spray can instead. I also painted the end bits with a mixture of Tamiya XF-49 and XF-64 to get that brownish color.

The little bit of orange on the tips of the wings is supposed to be the same yellowish color as the decals but it didn't turn out the way it should and I'm not going to change it now. Blame it on the instruction, it calls for Tamiya X-6 orange yellow but obviously it doesn't match.

Next step is a big job; building the main body. It involves spraying 2 layers of different shade of green and lots of masking involved. Show you when it's done.

Building Boba Fett's Slave 1 Step 3 & 4: Completing the cockpit.

It's been a while since I last updated on my little Slave 1 project. Thing is I'm progressing slowly but surely. Last I showed you I was painting Boba Fett to be seated in the cockpit.

Today I'm show you the works I've done in both Step 3 and 4 since they both involved building the cockpit. All the panels involved had to be painted in field gray and joined together.

Boba Fett was ready to be seated in his pilot seat as well. This is the completed cockpit with Boba inside. Next I'm off to work on the side wings...coming up next.

So still think you're above the law?

Are you one of those people who think you're above the law? That the laws of the land doesn't apply to you because you think you're special and untouchable? Well think again.

If you think you can avoid paying all those fines you've accumulated over the years and get away with it then you should know that court appointed sheriffs are allowed to seize your properties if you don't pay your fines!

First they find your property like your vehicle, then they wheel clamp it so you can't drive away and then they seize it if you don't pay your fines in a given amount of time. So still think you're above the law?

Building Boba Fett's Slave 1 Step 2: Painting Boba

It's been a while since my last update on my Boba Fett's Slave 1 project. Truth is I'm taking my sweet time working on this. No hurry, go at my own pace. It gets done when it gets done!

Step 2 involves painting Boba Fett to be seated in the cockpit later on. I needed 14 colors just to paint him! Field blue mixed with flat base for his suit, orange yellow for his shoulder pads & knee pads and so on.

After painting I had to put 2 decals on him; one on the left shoulder pad and another on his right chest plate. The one on his shoulder pad wouldn't stick because it was too small and curvy making it hard to stick. What the heck! You can't see it anyway so why worry? See how small it is, the toothpick gives you an idea of the scale.

Review on Alli Diet Pill

There’s talk about a wonder pill called Alli diet pill and rumors has it that it’s been approved by the FDA to be sold over the counter without a prescription.

Alli contains a drug called Orlistat that absorbs fat from the foods that you eat everyday so for people who eat a lot of fatty foods taking this wonder pill will get rid of the fat but at the same time it will also absorbs the healthy fats from your body like omega-fatty-acids and vitamin D. Read more about the review on this diet pill at Syber Vision Reviews.

Building Boba Fett's Slave 1 Step 1: The Cockpit

I've started building my Fine Molds Boba Fett's Slave 1. This kit is similar to Jango Fett's Slave 1 but with some modification to the cockpit and other areas especially the paint job later.

I'm unlike some of the expert modelers who can build kits with one eye closed. I need to study the instruction that comes with it with great detail before starting and it doesn't help when the instruction is in Japanese!

But the pictures pretty much show me what I need to do and I've just completed Step 1 which is part of the cockpit. The instruction requires I paint the parts in field gray and flat black. Didn't know that field gray looks a lot like dark green to me.

Here's the completed parts in Step 1. Sorry you can't see the details very well because of the dark colors and my camera doesn't take macro shots too well but trust me when I say they look good. Next step is painting Boba Fett to be seated inside the cockpit. That's coming up.

I've won again

Many of you know that I'm a competition buff. I've entered so many competitions I can't remember what or how many I've entered, just about every week I'll enter something.

Last week I got a package in the mail from New South Wales. I had no idea what it was, its a bit of a worry when you're not expecting something to come in the mail.

But I was pleasantly surprised when I found a DVD inside. Apparently I've won a competition for this DVD, I can't remember entering it though but it must've been through the Herald Sun website that has competitions every week.

Getting a new door

Buying a house from a previous owner can leave you with all the imperfections from the previous owner. That’s what happened to me; the front door of the house is falling off its hinges!

I had a handyman had a look at it but he recommended replacing the whole door and I think I’m tempted to. Door Hardware Plus has all the door hardware I need for a new front door; they have a wide range of brand names like Amerock, Baldwin and Codelocks. Check it out if you’re thinking of a new door too.

Oh dear...

Oh dear...this new project of mine is going to be so difficult to do. The difficult part is painting it to how it should look and I'm just terrible with it. I went to check out what the experts did and seriously I'm not sure I can do what they do.

This is how the parts should look like; it involves masking with tapes and liquid mask and different coats of paint. You can see the rest of the photos at http://www.starshipmodeler.com/starwars/lk_fett.htm where they show how they made the model. Oh how I envy what the experts can do.

Eye catching digital signage

With the advancement of digital technology businesses across the board can take advantage of using digital signage to grab their customers.

Digital signage gives you real-time communication between you and your customers, greater reach of potential customers, reduced cost in the long run and there’s so much you can do with this technology unlike the plain old conventional signs. Check out BlackBox.com to see what digital signage can do for your business.

It's nearly here

Woohoo! I'm excited! I've been waiting for over 6 months for this day to come. Just found out that the Millennium Falcon I ordered from Japan has been shipped so I'll soon get it here.

Reason why it took so long is because they didn't have stock and they're still very low on stock because this is a very popular kit. Sure I could buy from other online stores in Australia but they're more expensive, even with the postage included it is still cheaper to buy it from Japan!

Beautifully crafted gold chains

Gold is one of the most precious metals in the world and it’s treasured by people all around the world. I admit when it comes to buying gold jewelry I am clueless. The only gold jewelries I’ve ever worn are my wedding ring and the gold chain my wife gave me.

So it’s good to know that if I want to buy some good quality beautiful gold jewelry I can always count on JewelElegance.com where not only do they sell gold jewelries, they have diamonds, emeralds and other precious stones as well.

Buzy Bees

There's always something new in the city. I haven't been going into the city for quite some times mainly because of the inconvenience of parking but we did go down to Southbank for the CNY festival.

Eureka Tower is right in the middle of Southbank. It is the tallest residential building in the world reaching 253.5 metres with 92 storeys. On the top is a transparent skydeck that lets you see Melbourne in a clear enclosure!

But that's not what this post is about. This post is about the bees I saw on the side of the building when I was down at Southbank. I saw them being installed on television but this is the first time I've seen them up close.

Don't know what the bees symbolize but maybe to me they resemble the modern urban living of busy people in Melbourne. Everyone's too busy to enjoy life and they all live in high rise small apartments like the bee hives catacomb!

How appropriate for Valentine's Day!

You never know what kind of interesting things you can find just by driving on the roads. That's why I always have my camera ready in the car with me should I need it.

On Valentine's Day I noticed an interesting car in front of us, a blue Suzuki Swift. The car itself is nothing special, just another car on the road but its the exhaust pipes that caught my attention.

Love hearts exhaust pipes! How appropriate for Valentine's Day!

Home improvements

We moved into our new house 9 years ago and haven’t done anything to it since. But now things are getting a bit dull and old so I think its time for some home improvements to give our home a new lease of life.

I have lots of ideas on all the rooms in the house even including adding in a new home theater, maybe a balcony for upstairs looking down into the gardens below too. No rest for the wicked!

The black dragon

This happened about an hour ago; driving home from work along the Eastern Freeway when I noticed something I don't see everyday. In front of me was a black truck.

On top of the black truck was a black dragon! Well...a statute of a dragon anyway and its black too. This reminds me of the dragon I saw some times back but its different.

On closer look its made of metal, steel probably and I think it looks quite nice. Don't you think so? The wings actually move from the movement of the truck so I guess it can flap too maybe. Would you like to have one in your backyard or inside your house?

Dinner plate

One of my favorite flowering perennials is the dahlias. They come in all shapes and sizes with a multitude of colors to choose from. Unfortunately for me the ones I like best are the big ones that can grow to over a meter or more in the ground.
Space in my gardens is a problem so I had to grow them in containers which make the flowers smaller than their potential size. However one of them has just bloomed and I'm not at all disappointed with its size; it measures 18cm across. No wonder they call it 'dinner plate' because it practically filled up a whole dinner plate!

What's in all about?

Was at North Melbourne library when I noticed a teapot and mugs set someone laid out on the bench outside. So what's it all about? I dunno either, maybe someone thought its good art?

Or maybe they're making offering of tea to the spirits like how we used to do in Asia? Probably not. Maybe someone's set it up to see what response it'll get from passerby and they have a hidden camera set up across the street?

I'll never know but there was no tea in the pot nor the mugs. I think someone must have been filming me when I checked them out and who knows I might see myself on TV someday.

My next project

I've just paid for my next project, its the Fine Molds Boba Fett's Slave 1 ship and I'm ordering this kit from HLJ in Japan. Hopefully I'll get it sometimes next week. I've been shopping around and actually it costs more or less the same if I bought it from Sydney but because the store in Sydney doesn't accept Paypal I decided to buy it from Japan. Its actually cheaper to buy from Japan but the postage pushes the price up to about the same level as if I were to buy it from Sydney.

Some of you may know that I've done a Slave 1 before but that was a Jango Fett's version. This is the Boba Fett's version, they're both supposed to be the same ship but Boba Fett's version is older and has been modified from the Jango Fett's version. I will have so much fun making this one, its very challenging. All Fine Molds kits are challenging but they're so much better than the AMT/ERTL or Revell's products.
