Roadwork Sign

Its Wednesday which is hump day coz its in the middle of the week thus 'hump' like the hump of the camel...never mind, just excited that we've moved halfway through the week and the weekend is on its way!

Here in Melbourne we get a lot of road repairs in the middle of the busy roads and there's always good clear signs warning motorists of the road work being done ahead and to be cautious and prepare to stop if need to...very good.

But last week I was driving along busy Victoria Parade when there was another road work ahead. Traffic was slow but moving along but I didn't see any roadwork signs anywhere until I spotted a very small orange sign on a post...

What the...? No money in the budget to make new signs? Have to resort to home-made sign of a stick figure holding a sign! Or is he holding a giant lollypop? I reckon just trying to save some money by doing away with a real person. So very unnoticeable not to mention unsafe!

The sign is cute.. =) And would you prefer the authorities spend lots and lots of money in making fancy signs?

You know... we should start comparing those road signs from where we are. Some are so ridiculous! btw, love your garden!

Well..u can notice the sign quite easily..but what in the world does it mean? So cacat and mine you...if that was in Malaysia and its made of metal..it would have been taken down already and sold for scrap metal..

Here in KL, we don't need road sign. The new name for KL is Korek Lubang. Potholes everywhere. Dig here, Dig there! No sign anywhere!

hahaha.
oh well, it's better than having no sign at all. in kuching sometimes you can't see the dim roadworks warning light until you're a few metres away.

the best indication of roadwork going on is two lanes worth of cars starting to squeeze into one lane for no apparent reason, or so it seems at first.

how right hedo! ;)

wuching, one thing i cant understand is that weird thing melbournians do when turning at traffic lights....can u explain that? ;) i bet EVERYONE would find it 'educational'. ;P

In Sibu, u can see signs in English "SLOW...MAN AT WORK!" and then u can't see anybody at work, not even a slow man!!! In Wellington, that sign would mean "Strong winds!" The poor man's umbrella blown out by gales!

Anonymous said...

What? The 2nd sign's also for "men at work"??? I thought that would be a sign in front of a school, the traffic warden controlling traffic for students to cross tha road!!!

Wuching said...

QV: u wish!

hedo: right u r!

yvy: yes..that only happens in melbourne & its called the "hook turn" & u only need to do that in the city intersections where trams share the roads with cars..see, if cars were to turn normally they'd have block the trams from going straight so vehicles r required to wait on the far left lane of the road before turning thus not blocking the trams who r going straight! get it? if not, i may have to do a post on it with diagrams and maps! hahahaha!

STP: in sibu those r jkr ppl..i know coz i used to work there for a while..

in wellington they have strong wind thus the signs

those traffic wardens r called "lollypop men" or "lollypop ladies"!

beats KL anytime!
Here, just as you turn the bend on the highway, you'll find a small truck or van parked there. And the workers are either mending the road or trimming the hedges!

Wuching said...

king's wife: aiya u just say that coz u have a soft spot for melbourne!

Anonymous said...

Oh? U used to work for JKR kah? No wonder!! Old habits hard to break, ya? Jangan Kerja Rajin (Don't work hard!)!

Anonymous said...

eh, wuching...those maps n diagrams will certainly help! ;) *giving u ideas on what to post next* ;)

Wuching said...

STP: of course lah!

yvy: coming right up!
