The truth about Sarawak

Clare from Kampua Talk is on a mission to educate the West Malaysians about the truth about Sarawak and she has enlisted 10 Sarawakian bloggers to help her. This is my contribution to her mission.

Q: Oh, you are from Sarawak! *eyes wide with excitement* So far away! How you people come here ah?
Our ancestors flew to Sarawak from Mars in their flying saucers 300 years ago so here we are. Tada!

Q: Oh, like that! So back home, you people live in trees ar?
Yes exactly! You seen Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi onot? There got Ewoks living in the trees, that's how we live.

Q: You guys have electricity or not?
No we don't use electricity coz we don't need it. Everything runs on batteries wan. We have lots of batteries.

Q: Kuching got airport or you use boat go Johor?
We have transporter like in Star Trek where they beam you onto their ships lidat! Its much faster than a plane or boat.

Q: How long if you take bus from Singapore to Kuching?
Depend if the bus can drive on water onot. If can I think less than 1 day enough if you drive quickly coz no traffic jam in the sea!

Q: Over there got what car?
We don't have car there, we all ride bicycles so its better for the environment.

Q: Got road or not?
Got! How do you think we ride our bicycles?

Q: You Bidayuh from Sulawesi there huh?
You got study Geography in skool onot?

Q: Sarawak inside Sabah, right?
Wrong, next.

Q: Eh? Sabah Sarawak not the same meh?
Sabah only got 5 letters but Sarawak has 7 letters, how can be the same?

Q: Kuching how big ar?
Heiyo...verrry big wor! I tried to walk from one end to the other but cannot finish wor!

Q: Kuching got a lot of cats hoh?
Got! And dogs and rats also got!

Q: Sarawak got Malay?
Nolah, we only have Sarawakians there.

Q: Sarawak people can speak English?
Can! We learn from TV mah!

Q: You people from Sarawak use Ringgit?
Nolah, we use Sarawak pound wan wor...1 Sarawak pound equals 400 ringgits. You wanna buy Sarawak pound? Very stable currency, better than US dollars!

I cant bloody believe this!
I just started a second blog purely in Bahasa Sarawak with bits of English.
And i talked about exactly this! The stereotype of Sarawak/Sarawakians.
Even the contents are almost the same.

I googled 'Sarawakian Bloggers' and found your blog.

Definitely a great read.
Stop over some time.
